Using Search
You can perform a full-text search in any of the major areas of IBM(R) Lotus(R) iNotesTM. The Search bar is located at the top of the main Lotus iNotes window. The Search field initially displays a gray "ghost text" label that indicates the current scope. When you click in the text field, the "ghost text" scope disappears.
Depending on how your admnistrator sets up search, your search is performed in one of these ways:
- Web-style search -- treats multiple terms as though the AND operator connects them. Documents returned would have all the terms but not necessarily in the order they were entered.
- Lotus iNotes style search -- is equivalent to enclosing the terms within quotation marks so that a search would return documents with an exact match of the words in the order they were entered in the search field.
Before you can use search
You must create a full-text index to enable search:
- Click Preferences.
- In the Basics preferences, check Enable full-text indexing for searching.
- Click OK.
Note It may take a few minutes to create a full-text index.
